Coalition for Justice (CFJ) is an non-governmental organization promoting the rights of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Georgia through advocacy, education, research and analysis. Founded in 2010 by a group of IDPs from Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region, it has hundreds of associated members and represents the opinions and interests of some 40 like-minded organizations and over 400,000 IDPs in the country.

CFJ derives its peaceful mandate from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Four Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, the Refugee Law and the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement.

CFJ maintains that:

  • Ethnic cleansing is a single most important cause of displacement of approx. 400,000 Georgians since the early 1990s; Furthermore, CFJ is convinced that ethnic cleansing is not a mere consequence, but is one of the main goals of war in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region;

  • Occupation of the Georgian territories by Russia is the major contributing factor to the protracted nature of displacement and an impediment to the peaceful and just resolution of the conflicts;

  • Return of the displaced to Abkahzia and Tskhinvali region must be promoted as a rights-based alternative to integration and as the most logical and preferred durable solution to the plight of the displaced.
